Scanning through and reflecting upon the encounters and events that took place in the first 31 days of the 2016 new year — there was an abundance of simple goodness, small joys, unexpected mishaps and a few sad state of affairs.
My thoughts took me to a poem, The Guest House by 13th century Sufi poet, Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rumi. The poem invites us to accept and face every experience and every emotion mindfully. Do you?
Success or failure being human can surely be messy yet there in the occasional messiness, this Sufi wisdom evokes, when taking the time to receive all guests, there is significance, value and importance when we are open to, attentive, interested and engaged no matter what.
To ruminate on the nature of the beautifully written poem by Rumi, this being human is a guest house indeed influences, teaches and leads when we welcome and entertain it all.
